MYP Accreditation
(Posted on 10/06/21)
Dear Chester International School community members,
We are so delighted and proud to be announcing to you that we have been fully accredited to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Our learners in year 10 and 11 will continue to take a package of 9 GCSE’s, taught within a Middle Years Programme framework, which contextualises the learning in inquiry-based projects. Learners will continue to develop a wide range of transferable skills and character traits to prepare them for the next step in their education. The Middle Years Programme is the perfect preparation for the Diploma and Career programmes offered at the sixth form, giving a clear educational pathway for our learners.
Accreditation for the Middle Years Programme is no mean feat with a huge array of standards and practices to gain a high level of competence in prior to verification. There are around 20 schools in the United Kingdom which offer the programme, with 50% of those schools being independent schools. We are currently the only school in the UK offering the programme in the north of England.
We have a fantastic team of staff who have been led by the Middle Years Coordinator Montana Hull throughout the process. All teachers have undergone a month-long official training which also involved years of on-going professional development to meet and maintain the standards. The students have been embracing their projects, excelling in their lessons and have been making huge strides in the approaches to learning skills and learner profile traits over the years. We would like to say a special thank you to the governors, parents, learners and staff who were directly involved in the verification visit days which took place last month.
The International Baccalaureate has commended the students of Chester International stating that they ‘express themselves openly and respectfully’ and ‘show an awareness of human commonality, diversity, and multiple perspectives’. They also commended the school for ‘developing a culture of mutual respect’ and for building ‘a stimulating learning environment based on understanding and respect throughout the school’.
We would like to celebrate the news of the school reaching a very important milestone along its school development journey. We are just so happy to be able to bring this exciting educational offer to the young people of Cheshire West and Chester.
Kind regards,
Katrina Brown
