Reaching for the Stars at CIS - Y13 IB Results Day 2022

Reaching for the Stars at CIS - Y13 IB Results Day 2022

(Posted on 11/07/22)

The educational journey for the year 13 class of 2022 has been nothing short of grueling since their year 11 pathway was disrupted as Covid hit in March 2020. As the pandemic continued to challenge learning opportunities and wellbeing in 2021, the learners at Chester International displayed characteristics of grit and resilience throughout. Having to adapt to online learning once again in year 12, the group also needed to adapt their thinking to complete coursework investigations and explorations without the physical tools of the trade. They have evolved to be a seriously hardy cohort of learners who successfully managed to navigate the challenges and thrived whilst doing so.

On Tuesday 5th July, the year 13 International Baccalaureate class of 2022 received their final grade awards for their diploma courses, and we could not be prouder of their achievements.

Ruth Rowlands pictured above will be taking an exciting gap year working in industry before heading off to university to study child nursing. She says, "As soon as I stepped into CIS I was made to feel so welcome and was continually challenged to be the best that I possibly could! Coming from a home educated background I didn’t have any difficulties moving into a school and was given amazing opportunities to thrive plus learn from the greatest teachers & friends."

International student Mateo Rodriguez pictured below will be taking a trip up north to Edinburgh University after a wonderful diploma score of 38; Mateo will study Biomedical Sciences at The University of Edinburgh.

Sam Rushforth has been at CIS from year 10 to year 13, he summarised that "It's been a tough two years of IB but even through Covid, the principal and teachers did all they could to help me pass, and I’m looking forward to studying Sports and Exercise Science at John Moores"

Amira Berdouk, who will be joining year 13 next year completed a Mandarin Diploma Course early and achieved the top grade of a 7.

Daniel Jarrett, pictured below spoke on personal "sacrifices" that were made during a move from Mexico to the UK before he joined CIS. He quotes: "I found happiness at CIS and I am elated at the results I managed to achieve." Despite the obvious challenges of moving to a new place and a new school during a pandemic, Daniel achieved a superb diploma score of 42, and now will go on to The University of Edinburgh to study Ancient History.  The maximum possible score is 45.  Less than 1% of Diploma candidates achieve this score.

Benjamin Healey achieved a phenomenal diploma score of 39; he will go on to study Natural Sciences at University College London.

Vivian Hammerton joined the school in year 10 and was ecstatic to collect her results and secure her place at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts where she will study Film Production.

Two students are following a path into the world of fashion; Natasha Siebert completed the Career-related Programme and has an unconditional offer to study fashion and design at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Sophie Steinke, who completed the Diploma Programme will study fashion at JCA London fashion academy.

Katrina Brown the school’s Principal said: ‘This year group have been absolute stars; they weathered the storm of Covid and have come through shining. We are delighted to see our learners achieve their hard-earned diploma and course awards, ready for their bright futures ahead.’

Daryl Goodwin, the Vice Principal of CIS, said: ‘The past two years have seen a fundamental shift in how we work and learn as a society. Our students have been at the forefront of this shift and have embraced the changing world with maturity and innovation. I am so proud to be witness to such a hard-working, diligent, and likeable cohort. Congratulations year 13.’

IB Coordinator Abbey Peers said, “The progress that our students have made through the pandemic and beyond is truly outstanding and shows the level of their resilience and hard work. I would like to thank all of them for demonstrating what it means to be an IB learner.”

With 100% of year 13 learners having applied for university internationally and locally, 30% of the Career-related Programme candidates have received an unconditional offer. Career-related Programme learners will receive news of their overall award once the BTEC and CTEC results are released on 17th August.

With such a range of different courses and pathways, we at CIS are delighted to see this cohort achieve and follow their dreams. We will miss them dearly and wish them an exciting and prosperous future.
