CTEC Digital Media (Y12-13)

This course is the equivalent of 2 A levels and is studied as part of the Career-Related Programme. This course is studied alongside 2 IB Diploma Courses and the CP Core.

What will I Study?

Our OCR Cambridge Digital Media course contains a wide range of units on media products and audiences, pre-production and planning, Social media and globalisation, and web and graphic design.

This will allow their creativity and flair to be harnessed in the design and production of media products used within the industry. Students will also gain an understanding of how different businesses and organisations in the media sector work.

Digital Content for Interactive Media

We chose this pathway as it offers the skills, knowledge and understanding that students need to succeed in the sector and are recognised for creative design in media products such as; digital games, animation and online interactive technologies.

This pathway will allow our students to gain employment in roles such as Digital Layout Artists, Digital Graphic Designers, Freelance Reporter, Web-developers/Designers, Animators; Computer Graphics Modellers alongside Media and Marketing fields.

Students will enjoy a wide range of activities undertaken during the course, including:

Work Experience

Learners will be able to take advantage of short term and longer-term placements so they can ‘learn on the job’. A mandatory one-week work placement will also be arranged to gain an insight into the world of Digital Media. This essential part of the course has also proved to be of great benefit when applying for further education courses or paid employment. Many students have also found that it has broadened their horizons in terms of what they would like to do for their career after Sixth Form.

Often learners will select 2 of the following diploma courses to complement this option: IB Film, IB Visual Arts, IB English, IB Environmental Science, IB Theatre, IB Business.
