Cambridge Technicals in Digital Media

Cambridge Technicals are vocational qualifications at Level 3 for students aged 16+. They are designed with the workplace and progression to higher education in mind.

The OCR Cambridge Technical (CTEC) in Digital Media is a level 3 qualification equivalent to two A-Levels. Qualifications have a mixture of internal and external assessments and CIS is allocated a visiting moderator.

Our Level 3 Cambridge Technicals in Digital Media qualifications help students to achieve their potential and progress to the next stage of their lives, whether that is higher education, an apprenticeship or employment.

We have designed refreshing and exciting content that is up to date, engaging, fit for purpose and suitable for the needs of students. To do this, we have consulted with universities, employers and industry specialists to make sure students will gain the right combination of knowledge, understanding and skills required for the 21st century.

An extensive range of coursework units with practical and wider project-based assessment opportunities, as well as examined units on media products and audiences, pre-production and planning as well as social media and globalisation has resulted in focused qualifications.

Who is the OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Digital Media for?

This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over who want to study digital media concept and production development. It allows them to specialise in digital content for interactive media.

Learners will develop specialist knowledge, understanding and skills in their chosen area, to prepare them for employment in the digital media sector in job roles such as digital layout artists, assistant animators, production runners, freelance crew.

It could also provide a route to a higher education media-related programme such as Digital Media, Media Production, Media Communications, Journalism and Digital Marketing.

The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other qualifications such as Business, English, Visual Art, or Theatre.

The course consists of 12 units that will be taught over two years. The units are as follows:

GCSE Media Studies

Learners study a range of media forms in terms of a theoretical framework which consists of media language, representation, media industries and audiences.

The following forms are studied in depth through applying all areas of the framework: newspapers, television, music video, online media, social and participatory media. Advertising and marketing, film, video games, radio and magazines are studied in relation to selected areas of the framework.

The media have real relevance and importance in our lives today, providing us with ways to communicate, with forms of cultural expression and the ability to participate in key aspects of society. The economic importance of the media is also unquestionable. The media industries employ large numbers of people worldwide and operate as commercial industries on a global scale. The global nature of the contemporary media, coupled with ongoing technological developments and more opportunities to interact with the media, suggest that their centrality in contemporary life can only increase.
