Application for leave of absence

Please read carefully

Changes to the Education (Student Registration) (England) Regulations 2006, implemented from 1st September 2013, make clear that headteachers/principals may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. In exceptional circumstances, when leave of absence is granted, the Headteacher/principal will determine the number of school days a child or young person can be away from school. A leave of absence is granted entirely at the headteacher/principal’s discretion.

Applications for Leave Of Absence (LOA) will be considered individually, taking into account the specific facts and circumstances and relevant background context behind the request.

Applications must be made using only this form, at least two weeks in advance of the date requested. Please ensure all sections of the form are completed fully to allow us to consider your application in it's entirety. Notification of outcomes of applications will be received in writing, 7 days after submission.

Chester international school accepts no responsibility for any loss of learning or progress as a result from a term-time absence.

Should an unauthorised leave of absence be of duration of 10 consecutive school sessions (ie five school days) or more, on the request of the Head Teacher/Principal or School Governing Body, the local authority will issue a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) to each of the child’s parents/carers. More information on Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) can be found at the end of this form.
