Photography (Y10-11)
Welcome to G.S.C.E Photography. You will be introduced to a wide range of both contemporary and historical artists working within this field of study. The course will give you the opportunity to record the world around you in new and exciting ways. You will understand the how to use a camera and how photographs can be edited to enhance the images.
Subject aims
The subject aims to explore the ways in which sources inspire the development of ideas, relevant to photography including:
- how sources relate to historical, contemporary, social, cultural and issues-based contexts and external considerations such as those associated with the cultural industries and client-oriented requirements
- how ideas, themes, subjects and feelings can inspire creative responses informed by different styles, genres and aesthetic considerations and/or an individual's distinctive view of the world
The ways in which meanings, ideas and intentions relevant to photography can be communicated include the use of:
- figurative and non-figurative forms, image manipulation, close up, and imaginative interpretation
- visual and tactile elements such as:
- colour
- line
- form
- tone
- texture
- shape
- pattern
- composition
- scale
- sequence
- surface
- contrast
Assessment objectives
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
Coursework and Exam
The course is made up of 60% coursework in the form of a Portfolio and 40% externally assessed assignment set under examination conditions.
