Spanish (Y10-13)
Learning a new language provides a means of communicating with people from another culture and exploring one’s own personal world. Here at Chester International School we believe that languages are inseparably linked to the social and cultural contexts in which they are used. Learning an additional language and its related cultures extends students’ linguistic and cultural understanding and their ability to interact appropriately with other speakers.
At CIS, we are passionate about our communicative and interactive approach to language learning. Our aim is to enable students to become competent communicators, building students’ confidence and their ability to communicate as global citizens. Through our learning experiences, students use the language to make meaning becoming more effective communicators, developing the skills of listening, reading, and viewing and speaking, writing, and presenting or performing. Students learn about culture and the interrelationship between culture and language. We explore music, film, literature, drama, society, celebrations and use realia and real life experiences wherever possible.
Interaction in a new language introduces our students to new ways of thinking about, questioning, and interpreting the world and their place in it. Through such interaction, students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that equip them for living in a world of diverse peoples, languages, and cultures.
