Theatre (Y12-13)
The IB DP Theatre course is an incredibly exciting course which aims to develop your performance, directing and written skills using Theatre from around the world. The main aims of the IB Theatre course are; to explore theatre in a variety of contexts and understand how these contexts inform practice, to understand and engage in the processes of transforming ideas into action, to develop and apply theatre production, presentation and performance skills, working both independently and collaboratively, and finally, to understand and appreciate the relationship between theory and practice.
The course is divided into three assessments at Standard level and four assessments at Higher level. The first assessment is the Collaborative project, where students work together in small groups to devise an original piece of Theatre based on a stimulus. The second is the research presentation where students select a world theatre tradition that they have not previously studied to research and perform a convention in this style. The next assessment is the Production Proposal where students select a play of their choice to analyse and produce a report of how they would go about directing, staging and designing this production. The final assessment is for HL students only and comes in the form of a Solo Theatre piece. Students select a world-renowned theatre practitioner and develop an original performance using their theory and practices.
