What is fusing glass?

Firstly the students researched ‘Fusing Glass’ and evi-denced their research using video, power point, word, publisher, photos or spider diagrams. The documentation con-tained the following information:

• Explain the processes of fusing glass for example tem-peratures, how to set up the kiln etc. Photo of a kiln maybe, surprise me!
• Explain the process of fusing glass with metals in be-tween (How is it done?)
• Explain the various colours that you can achieve in the glass tiles by using different metals for example the colour red from copper wire.
• I would like you to display images of produced tiles that are of interest to you.

Produce six of your own designs in your sketch books, using a ruler and an ART pencil you can decide the size of your six tiles.

Using the various metals available, copper, silver and brass pro-duce a design.

Can is pictured above creating his design of a Nuclear Power sign. The design will be sandwiched between two pieces of glass and fused in a kiln at a temperature of 800ºc.
