What is Pupil Premium?

Students in Chester classroom

Pupil Premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.

Pupil Premium funding for learners at Chester International School will enable them to achieve highly and move successfully to the next stage of their education. Our school is committed to narrowing the achievement gap between our disadvantaged students and the other members of our school community. As a key strategic priority we closely monitor the performance of our students, and deploy our Pupil Premium funding to enact those strategies that will have a positive impact on their learning and performance. Furthermore, we use the Pupil Premium funding to develop the wider cultural literacy of our disadvantaged students, by supporting them to participate in school trips and extra-curricular activities.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy identifies how we spent our PP funding in the last financial year and its impact on the performance of disadvantaged students and includes the next steps we are taking to ensure that in our school the gaps continue to close.
